Students Served
The 21st CCLC program categorized groups of students based on the number of days they attended. The charts that follow show these groupings for each site and for Kent Connects overall:
- Students attending less than 10 days likely receive few benefits from the program
- Students attending 10-29 days may receive some benefits
- Students who attend 30 or more days are likely to receive some benefits and are referred to as regular attendees
- Regular attendees who attend 60 or more days are believed to receive the most benefit
The program’s goal and objectives for students served were as follows:
- Serve a meaningful number of students at each site
- Meeker– Serve 100 students per day and 100 students will attend at least 30 days, and 60% of regular attending students will attend 60 or more days.
- Mill Creek – Serve 100 students per day and 100 students will attend at least 30 days, and 60% of regular attending students will attend 60 or more days.
In terms of overall participants, both sites had strong participation in most years of the grant, except in Year 5 (2020-21) which was the year of virtual school and programming during the COVID-19 pandemic. In all other years, both sites served over 100 students, and often far more than 100. Meeker’s highest participation was in Year 2 (2017-18), with 284 overall participants. Mill Creek’s highest participation was 286 students in Year 3 (2018-19). Meeker saw significant growth in overall participation from Year 1 (2016-17) to Year 2 (2017-18) in the number of students who attended programming, nearly doubling total attendees. Mill Creek had a consistently high number of attendees throughout the years, at around 250, except in Year 5 (2020-21). (Additional data available)
The program’s objective for regular attendance at each site was to have 100 students attend 30 days or more. Of those students, the program aimed to have 60 student (60% of 100) attend 60 days or more.
Meeker achieved the objective for regular attendees (students attending 30 days or more) in Year 2 of the grant, when 140 students (49% of total participants) attended 30 days or more. The program was short of the objective that 60% of regular attendees would attend for 60 days or attendance, as 28% of them (49 of 140) attended 60% or more. In other years, Meeker did not meet the objectives for regular attendance. (Additional data available)
Mill Creek also achieved the objective for regular attendees in Year 2 of the grant, when 113 students (50% of total participants) attended 30 days or more. The program did not meet the objective for 60% of regular attendees to attend 60 days or more, as 26% of them (29 of 113) attended 60% or more. In other years, Mill Creek did not meet the objectives for regular attendance. (Additional data available)
Though overall participation was greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and virtual programming in Year 5, both sites had comparatively high proportions of regular attendees. At Meeker, 50% of participants (50 of 100) attended 30 days or more, and 68% of those (17 of 25) attended 60 days or more. At Mill Creek, 36% of participants (24 of 66) attended 30 days or more. (Note that the percentage in Chart 3 shows 37%, due to rounding.) 42% of those regular attendees (10 of 24) attended 60 days or more.

The chart above reflects attendance for each school year, and the summer term that preceded it. However, in 2016-17, there was not a summer program that preceded the school year as this was the first year of the grant. In addition to the data in the chart above, Meeker also had a Summer 2022 program (following Year 6).
