Success For Each Child & Eliminate the Opportunity Gap by Leading with Racial Equity

Community Context

From its start in 2016-17, the 21st CCLC program in Kent provided opportunities for high-quality programming in response to the Meeker and Mill Creek communities’ assets and needs, including:

  • The program served a suburban area of King County with large low-income, immigrant, and refugee populations
  • Both sites served a larger proportion of low-income students in comparison to the district throughout all six years.
    • Mill Creek was Title I school.
  • Meeker and Mill Creek served a large population of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students (specifically Latina/o/x, Asian, and Black/African American students), English Language Learners, and low-income students.
    • Over the course of the six years of the 21st CCLC program (2016-17 through 2021-22), both Meeker and Mill Creek Middle Schools served a larger proportion of Black/African American students compared to the district as a whole.
    • Mill Creek served a significantly greater proportion of Latina/o/x and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander students compared to the district, as well as a greater proportion of English Language Learners.
  • The population of students with disabilities also slightly increased at both sites over the years, consistent with an overall increase in the district. (Additional data available)
  • In 2021-22, the percent of 7th grade Meeker students meeting standard in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math was just below the district; Mill Creek was farther below the percent meeting standard compared to the district as a whole. (Additional data available)
