Students Served

The 21st CCLC program categorized groups of students based on the number of days they attended.  The charts that follow show these groupings for each site and for Federal Way overall:

  • Students attending less than 10 days likely receive few benefits from the program
  • Students attending 10-29 days may receive some benefits
  • Students who attend 30 or more days are likely to receive some benefits and are referred to as regular attendees
  • Regular attendees who attend 60 or more days are believed to receive the most benefit

The program’s goal and objectives for students served were as follows:

  • Serve a meaningful number of students at each site with a meaningful intensity of service.
    • Enroll 120 students
    • At least 75% will attend at least 30 days (known as regular attending students)
    • 60% of regular attending students will attend 60 or more days by the end of the school year

The program had a strong start with program participation in the first three years, meeting the goal to serve 240 students overall (120 per site) in 2018-19 and 2019-20.  Participation at Sunnycrest was slightly higher than 120, and at Wildwood it was slightly lower – in total, participation exceeded 240 students.  With the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift to virtual programming, attendance dropped significantly in 2020-21 and increased slightly in 2021-22 as programs shifted to a hybrid approach.  Both Site Coordinators noted that enrollment was a challenge in 2020-21, with fewer opportunities to connect with students due to school closures and students’ and families’ “Zoom fatigue” from online learning.  (Additional data available)

While the number of participants was a challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic, regular attendance was a strength for both programs.   (Additional data available)  Sunnycrest consistently increased the number of students who attended at least 30 days of programming.  In 2020-21, the year of virtual school and programming, almost 50% of program attendees participated in 90+ days of programming.  In 2021-22, the majority of participants attended at least 30 days of programming. (Additional data available)

Wildwood had consistent participation of about 100 students in 2017-18 through 2019-20, and the number of attendees who participated in 60+ days of programming significantly grew between 2017-18 and 2018-19.  In 2021-22, Wildwood had over 75% of attendees participating in at least 30 days of programming.   (Additional data available)

The chart above reflects attendance for each school year, and the summer term that preceded it. However, in 2017-18, there was not a summer program that preceded the school year as this was the first year of the grant. In addition to the data in the chart above, Sunnycrest also had a Summer 2022  program (following Year 5) for 15 days. 25 total students attended, and 14 of them (56%) attended 13 days or more.

The chart above reflects attendance for each school year, and the summer term that preceded it. However, in 2017-18, there was not a summer program that preceded the school year as this was the first year of the grant. In addition to the attendance data included in the chart above, Wildwood also had a Summer 2022 program (following Year 5) for 12 days. 30 total students attended, and 26 of them (87%) attended 10 days or more.
