Program Quality

The Student Success 21st CCLC program participated in the David P. Weikart Center’s Youth Program Quality Initiative (YPQI) to support program quality and improvement.  Typically, this process included internal and external assessments, which Site Coordinators and staff used to inform program quality improvement goals.  The program had an overarching goal and two objectives related to program quality and YPQI: 

  • Increase ratings on the Youth Program Quality Assessment each year  
    • Ratings on the dimensions of interaction and engagement by the local evaluators will increase each year of the project with the first year serving as a baseline 
    • Ratings on the dimensions of interaction and engagement by the local evaluators will equal or better the average ratings of other programs in the state by the last year of the project 

Results for the objective for increased ratings on interaction and engagement were mixed.  For engagement, the average score was 2.6 in the first two years of the grant and increased to 2.8 in 2019-20 (Year 3) and 2021-22 (Year 4).  For engagement, scores increased each year from Year 1 (2017-18) to Year 3 (2019-20) but then declined in Year 5 (2021-22).  (Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, school closures, and the shift to virtual programming, formal assessments were not required in 2020-21.)   Additional data available 

For the objective to equal or exceed the state average for Interaction and Engagement, results were also mixed.   The program consistently met or exceeded the state average (indicated in green in the chart) in these dimensions in each of the first three years of the grant, but was below the state average in both dimensions in 2021-22.  Additional data available

1 2019-20 YPQA assessment scores are for Wildwood only.  Sunnycrest participated in the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) PQA pilot, and the external assessments scheduled for Spring 2020 were canceled due to COVID-19.
