Students Served
Regarding student attendance, the program’s goals and measurable objectives for students served were as follows:
- Increase sense of belonging and engagement for students in 21st CCLC program
- At least 10% of the total school population will regularly attend program.
- At least 60% of regular attendees will attend program for 60 days or more.
- Among regular attendees, data will not show differences in regular attendees or 60+ day attendees across race, ethnicity, or ELL groups.
The size of each of the three 21st CCLC program sites varies substantially from 23 participants at Neely O’Brien, 45 participants at River Ridge, and 218 participants at Mill Creek. 2 Paired with the different grade levels being served (middle school vs. elementary school) it is important to consider the site-specific contexts in the following data discussion. (Additional data available)
The program’s objective for regular attendance was to have at least 10% of the total school population regularly attend program. Of those regular attendees, at least 60% of those students would attend program for 60 days or more.
Regular Attendees
During the 2022-23 program year, none of the 21st CCLC sites met the objective for regular attendees. Mill Creek enrolled 218 program participants during the program year, which is 27.6% of the total school population (n=790); however, only 12% (n=26) of those attendees (3% of the school population) attended program regularly. Neely O’Brien enrolled 23 program participants during the program year, which is 4.3% of of the total school population (n=533). 48% (n=11) of those students were regular attendees (2% of the school population). River Ridge enrolled 45 participants during the program year, which is 6.6% of the total population (n=678). 40% (n=18) of those participants were regular attendees (3% of the school population). Regular attendees attending 60 or more days
Among regular attendees, the rates in which participants attended program for 60 days or more are as follows:
- 2% of regular attendees at Mill Creek attended program for 60 or more days.
- 16% of regular attendees at Neely O’Brien attended program for 60 or more days.
- 25% of regular attendees at River Ridge attended program for 60 or more days.
These results do not satisfy the program objective as each of the sites have rates well below 60% for regular attendees who attend program for 60 or more days. (Additional data available)
Though overall enrollment and regular attendance fall below the stated objectives, it is important to note that each of these school sites were in the foundation-building stages during their first year of programming.
Distribution by Demographics
Another objective sought by the program is related to similar or equal representation of program participants when comparing regular attendees to the overall 21st CCLC program. These results demonstrate that each of the three sites served a diverse range of students at their school site.
When comparing regular attendees to the overall Kent Community Success program at each site, the population of students served is relatively similar. For example, 26% of Mill Creek’s total program identifies as Hispanic or Latino, which is comparable to the 33% of regular attendees who identify as Hispanic or Latino. Similar trends can be seen among most demographic groups including BIPOC and MLL students. (Additional data available for Mill Creek)
More granular site-leve results may help inform approaches and supports for regular attendance, such as where the proportion of regular attendees is substantially less than the proportion of 21st CCLC participants in a given demographic group (e.g., Asian students at Mill Creek, Hispanic/Latino students at Neely O’Brien, or ELL students at River Ridge).
