Students Served
The 21st CCLC program asserts that regular attendees will exhibit positive trends in academic and social development. Because of this, students were segmented into groups based on the total number of days they attended program at their respective sites.
- Students attending less than 10 days are likely receive few benefits from the program.
- Students attending 10-29 days may receive some benefits.
- Students attending 30 or more days are likely to receive some benefits and are considered “regular attendees”.
- Regular attendees who attend 60 or more days are believed to receive the most benefit.
Regarding student attendance, the program’s goals and measurable objectives for students served were as follows:
- Increase sense of belonging and engagement for students in 21st CCLC program
- At least 10% of the total school population will regularly attend program.
- At least 60% of regular attendees will attend program for 60 days or more.
- Among regular attendees, data will not show differences in regular attendees or 60+ day attendees across race, ethnicity, or ELL groups.
The size of each of the two 21st CCLC program sites varies little, with 60 participants at East Hill and 68 participants at Springbrook. (See Chart 1)
Regular Attendees
The program’s objective for regular attendance was to have at least 10% of the total school population regularly attend program. Of those regular attendees, at least 60% of those students would attend program for 60 days or more.
During the 2023-24 program year, East Hill enrolled 60 program participants during the program year, which is 15% of of the total school population (n=404); however only 42% (25 of 60) of those students were regular attendees (6% of the school population). They did not meet the objective of 10% of total school population attending program regularly. Springbrook met both objectives for regular attendees, with a total of 68 program participants during the program year, which is 20% of the total school population (n=333); 84% (n=57) of those attendees (17% of the school population) attended program regularly. (See Chart 2)
Regular attendees attending 60 or more days
Among regular attendees, the rates in which participants attended program for 60 days or more are as follows:
- 13% of regular attendees at East Hill attended program for 60 or more days.
- 84% of regular attendees at Springbrook attended program for 60 or more days.
Results at East Hill do not satisfy the program objective (that 60% of regular attendees attend 60 or more days) with a rate of 13% for regular attendees who attend program for 60 or more days. Springbrook exceeded this program objective by 24%. (See Chart 3 for more detailed attendance information)
Though overall enrollment and regular attendance fall below the stated objectives at East Hill, it is important to note that these school sites were in the foundation-building stages during their first year of programming.
Distribution by Demographics
Another objective sought by the program is related to similar or equal representation of program participants when comparing regular attendees to the overall 21st CCLC program. These results demonstrate that each of the three sites served a diverse range of students at their school site. Due to very small numbers of students and data suppression rules when a student group is fewer than 10 student, this analysis was possible for regular attendees at Springbrook for three populations of students, as show in Chart 4c.
When comparing regular attendees to the overall program at each site, the population of students served is relatively similar for some groups, but not for others. For example, 4% of East Hill’s total program identifies as Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, which is comparable to the 3% of regular attendees who identify as Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, or students who identify as MLL with 20% and 24% respectively. (See Chart 4a and Chart 4b for data for East Hill)
More granular site-level results may help inform approaches and supports for regular attendance, such as where the proportion of regular attendees is substantially less than the proportion of 21st CCLC participants in a given demographic group (e.g. Black, Hispanic/Latino, White and MLL at Springbrook). (See Chart 4c and Chart 4d for data for Springbrook)
