Student Academic Progress
Kent Community Success has the following objective for student academic growth: 50% of regular attendees will demonstrate progress in math and reading.
To determine student progress in reading and math, the Kent School District provided data from iReady assessments conducted across the district. iReady Growth Measures were aligned to district-identified growth standards. Data definitions and guidance for interpretation were provided to the 21st CCLC local evaluators by the Director of Strategic Initiatives at Kent School District.
Additionally, iReady Relative Levels were used to indicate any growth in students’ academic performance (including, for example, students who may not have met “typical” or “stretch” growth goals per the growth measures but did progress in their relative level).
Reading
The Kent Community Success program objective for student growth in reading is for 50% of regular attendees to demonstrate progress. In 2024-25, the program, as a whole, met this objective. Fifty-five percent (55%) of regular attendees met typical growth in 2024-25. At Neely-O’Brien, 61% of regular attendees met typical growth, at Mill Creek 55% of regular attendees met typical growth, and at River Ridge 51% of regular attendees met typical growth. Compared to 2023-24, the percentage of Kent Community Success regular attendees who met typical growth in reading increased. The percentage increased at Mill Creek (31% to 55%), decreased at Neely-O’Brien (77% to 61%), and decreased at River Ridge (57% to 51%). See Table 6.

When considering student progress based on iReady results for students’ relative reading level (e.g., early on grade level, mid or above grade level, 1 grade level below, 2 grade levels below, 3 or more grade levels below), only Neely-O’Brien met the objective for student improvement in reading, where 57% of regular attendees improved. Mill Creek and River Ridge did not meet the objective for students’ improvement in reading. At Mill Creek, 23% of regular attendees improved. At River Ridge, 47% of regular attendees improved. For the Kent Community Success program (as a whole), 39% of regular attendees improved. The percentage of regular attendees who improved in reading increased at all sites from 2023-24. See Table 7.

Math
The Kent Community Success objective for student growth in math is for 50% of regular attendees to demonstrate progress. Using the measure of students meeting typical growth in math, the program (as a whole) did not meet this objective in 2024-25. Forty-eight percent (48%) of regular attendees met typical growth. At Mill Creek, 52% of regular attendees met typical growth. At Neely-O’Brien 41% of regular attendees did, and at River Ridge 47% of regular attendees did.
For the program as a whole and compared to 2023-24, the percentage of regular attendees who met typical growth in math increased (from 42% to 48%). The percentage increased at Mill Creek (from 38% to 52%) and at River Ridge (from 35% to 47%). The percentage decreased at Neely-O’Brien (from 62% to 41%). See Table 8.

When considering student progress based on students’ relative math level, Neely-O’Brien and River Ridge met the objective for students’ improvement in math. At River Ridge, 58% of regular attendees improved, and at Neely-O’Brien, 52% of regular attendees improved. At Mill Creek the objective was not met, as 33% of regular attendees improved. The percentage of regular attendees who improved in math slightly increased at River Ridge and Mill Creek and slightly decreased at Neely-O’Brien from 2023-24. See Table 9.

[1] Per the guidance of the Kent School District, students who received percentage scores over 100% in either the iReady typical or stretch growth measure are considered to have “met” growth standards. Note: There were some student records in the Kent School District data request that were missing either a Fall or Spring iReady score. These records were excluded from this analysis, and the adjusted cohort was created for these calculations.
